Preparing Your Skin for Dermapen Microneedling

Pre and post treatment skincare is essential for all skin resurfacing treatments, whether that be IPL treatment, peels or microneedling.

Using the professional products that we recommend will help strengthen and nourish the skin prior to treatment. We want to make sure your skin recovers quickly and you achieve optimal results.

Which active ingredients are necessary to prep your skin for needling?

Vitamin A helps increase cellular turnover and repair damaged cells, which is important as your Dermapen treatment brings new healthy skin cells to the surface.

Vitamin B supports your skin barrier function and keeps your skin hydrated.

Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant that boosts collagen formation and helps brighten the skin. It's also a tyrosinase inhibitor that controls melanin production, very important for avoiding excess pigment due to the needling inflammatory process.

It's important to use a physical sunscreen daily to protect against UV damage before and after treatment for skin recovery.

Breakouts after Dermapen?

This type of breakout is temporary, usually lasting only a few days. If this does occur, we recommend using DP Dermaceuticals Clini-Prep spray. It’s a simple, safe, Dermapen™ approved treatment.

Is there anything you need to do before the treatment?

Please avoid these active ingredients in your skincare for 1 week before your treatment:

Alpha/beta hydroxy acids
Retinoids (Vitamin A) (including but not limited to tretinoin, retinol or retinaldehyde)
Benzoyl peroxide/adapelene
Hydroquinone/kojic acid/azelaic acid

The days leading up to your appointment, please avoid excess sun exposure.

Are there any contraindications to Dermapen?

Certain health conditions, medications, supplements and lifestyle factors may affect the skin needling procedure. All clients are required to complete a Dermapen™ Consultation Form prior to any clinical treatment for assessment by your Dermapen4 ATP certified therapist.
For tanned to dark complexions or skins prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, it is recommended to use a melanin inhibiting skin regime for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.

Instructions for post Dermapen skin needling care

Your certified Dermapen4 therapist will give you an aftercare pack to take home with all the do's and dont's ensuring you feel confident in caring for your skin post-treatment.

Each treatment is finished with a Hyla Active cooling, calming mask, along with a follow-up peel 1 week later.
